Cooking

East Asian

Characteristics of Asian cooking

  • I find that Asian food generally likes their vegetables crisp and lightly cooked (sushi, stir fries, chow mein). Sauces and flavor combinations are intense and food is colorful and beautiful.

European

Characteristics of European cooking

  • I find that European food is focused on being filling and hearty. Flavors are not overly intense, and the food is focused on being filling.

Korean

American

Characteristics of American cooking

  • American cooking loves potatoes. Mashed potatoes and ground beef; fries and burgers; roasted potatoes and chili.

Latin American

Characteristics of Latin American cooking

  • Latin American cooking loves jalapenos and other spicy peppers. This spicy addition adds a kick to food that is hard to live without.

Indian

Characteristics of Indian cooking

  • Indian cooking is all about the spice mix: cumin, coriander, kashmiri chili, methi, garam masala and others are added in liberal amounts to dishes to create a wonderful depth of flavor. I believe this is the only cuisine doing vegetarian food justice. I love to eat and make rajma masala and dal tadka.
